At WHL Surveying & Engineering, we’re proud to support property buyers and owners across the UK with accurate, professional surveying services. Our latest project took us to Norwich, where we carried out a Full Structural Survey on a beautiful period property in the heart of the city.

What We Did

Our expert team conducted a comprehensive inspection, carefully assessing all key structural components including:

  • Foundations and subsidence risk

  • Roof structure and coverings

  • Load-bearing walls and beams

  • Damp ingress and timber decay

  • Brickwork, pointing, and chimney stacks

  • External drainage and ground levels

We also reviewed previous alterations to ensure compliance with current building regulations.

Findings & Recommendations

While the property was generally well maintained, our survey uncovered several areas of concern:

  • Evidence of historical movement in the front bay window, likely due to shallow foundations

  • Penetrating damp around a disused chimney breast

  • Timber joists in the loft showing early signs of rot due to poor ventilation

  • Insufficient support beneath a kitchen extension completed several decades ago

All findings were documented with clear photographic evidence and accompanied by practical, prioritised recommendations for remedial work. The client was able to make informed decisions and plan effectively for future repairs and improvements.

Why WHL?

Our Full Structural Surveys go far beyond a basic homebuyer report. We provide in-depth, unbiased assessments tailored to the property and client—combining technical expertise with approachable, jargon-free reporting.
