WHL Surveying & Engineering was appointed to evaluate the feasibility of installing solar panels on the roof structure of Centre AT7. Located in Coventry, Centre AT7 is a vibrant community sports and leisure facility. Established in 1987, the centre offers a variety of amenities, including a 25-meter swimming pool, a fully equipped fitness suite, indoor sports halls, and outdoor facilities such as a climbing and abseiling tower. The primary objective of this project was to assess whether the roof could safely accommodate the additional weight of the solar panel system.
Our engineers conducted a detailed structural analysis of the roof to assess its capacity for bearing the added load of solar panels. This included:
The analysis required precise calculations to ensure that the installation would not compromise the structural safety or longevity of the roof. Specific challenges included potential localized stress points and ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards. Our team:
The assessment confirmed that the roof could accommodate the solar panels with minor reinforcements. This enabled the client to proceed confidently with their renewable energy initiative, enhancing the centre’s sustainability while maintaining its structural safety.
