Our structural surveys are designed to assess the condition and adequacy of a building’s primary load-bearing elements, including foundations, walls, floors, roofs, and steel or concrete frames.

We identify signs of movement, cracking, corrosion, or deterioration, providing detailed reports with photographic evidence, structural commentary, and considered recommendations for repair or further action.

Each report is written in plain, professional language, ensuring clarity for clients, contractors, and insurers alike.

Intrusive Structural Investigations

Where a deeper understanding of the structure is required, our engineers undertake targeted intrusive investigations to uncover hidden elements and confirm their condition or detailing.

These may include:

• Trial pits to confirm foundation type, depth, and bearing capacity
• Exposure of structural steelwork, connections, or reinforcement
• Selective removal of finishes to inspect concealed load paths or junctions
• Core sampling and material testing where necessary to verify construction quality.

When physical works are required, WHL S&E works in close partnership with our sister company, WHL Projects, providing access to experienced in-house tradesmen for controlled exposure and reinstatement works. This integrated capability ensures investigations are carried out safely, efficiently, and under direct engineering supervision.
